I managed to get a local bus to Krabi within half an hour, costing me only SGD5. The bus reached the borders of Malaysia and Thailand at around 0730hrs, and an hour later, i alighted from the bus at the main bus terminal in Hatyai. I recalled all the important things to do upon reaching Hatyai based on the research that i have done. I knew that we would reach Hatyai by 0830hrs (local time). The 3rd stop got me pretty excited as the sky was brightening up. Throughout the journey, there were a total of 3 stops for toilet breaks and snacks. I decided not to bother much and watched through the whole movie, after which i caught some sleep.

Here i was, going to Ao-Nang, Krabi, for my beach holiday and they were playing 'Piranha'. After passing the Malaysian immigrations, they played a DVD and to my shock, they played the movie, 'Piranha'. So, right after my pre-birthday bash in November, i set off in a bus at 1930hrs from Golden Mile, Singapore. To me, it just adds up the elements of fun, danger and craziness for my vacation! And when i told them that i will do a solo road-trip to Krabi, which will take approximately 17 to 18 hours, some of them thought that i had lost my mind! Haha. When i went to Penang alone and took a 10 hour bus ride there, many of my friends started questioning my sanity. However, in terms of endurance, it actually prepared me well for the next solo road-trip during my birthday. I guess Penang was never a place for me as it really lacks the entertainment factor. That was my first longest bus trip which took 10hrs just to reach Sungei Nibong Bus Terminal! To me, it was exciting and i never had an issue with backaches or backcramps throughout the entire bus ride! I spent 2 days in Penang, visited Batu Ferringhi and KOMTAR, the tallest building in Penang. That first KL solo road-trip had me thinking, who says travelling alone is boring?! To me, it never was! And 4 months later, i did an impromptu solo road-trip to Penang island. You will be spoilt for choices for footwear, it was really everywhere!! However, please do take note that all the goods there are 'fake' goods, so don't expect much in terms of quality. I managed to do some shopping too at Petaling Street, and there were really some good bargains there. An architectural brilliance of modern times! I visited Bukit Bintang as well, and got a good deal at Tropical Guesthouse for only 60MYR for 1 night. The Petronas Twin Towers was a sight to behold indeed. It was only then i realised that i had quite a good sense of direction. It just spurred me on to try and experience more longer solo road-trips.Īnyway, that first trip to KL was just as exciting. I walked from Puduraya Bus Terminal to KLCC, which took me almost 40 minutes, just with a help of the map i got. The freedom felt greater with the knowledge that nobody would object or oppose to any of my decisions at that point of time. Freedom to go just anywhere i want to, to do anything i wish to.

Freedom from everything that i have committed to all this while. A kind of freedom which i could not explain myself. Unbelievably, that was my first visit to the city capital of Malaysia! That debut solo road-trip, though only 2 days, gave me a sort of freedom. Anyway, i did my first solo road-trip only last year, which was a short one to Kuala Lumpur. Well, i must admit that i have contributed more than tens of thousands of Bahts to Thailand's tourism economy, due to my frequent visits of Phuket. Thanks to my hectic schedule and an ageing body which always needs ample rest. It's been a long time since i updated this travel blog of mine.
